Organic Theory
Did you know that the products found when drilling into a reservoir depends on the type of organic material laid down?
Crude Oil is derived from plant and animal matter laid down in ancient sea beds over millions of years. It was gradually covered by mud and rocks. Over time a great deal of pressure and heat was applied which has formed crude oil.
A reservoir can often contain both Natural Gas and Crude Oil.
• If the predominant material were animals then the product would be Natural Gas.
• If the predominant material were plants then the product would be Crude Oil.
